0 AR-Cluster Version 6 ?

Sysops,

Plans are to release AR-Cluster version 6, next week. The code is ready
and I am currently working on documentation. The initial release will be
for sysops that want to add a second node for skimmer spots.

This is totally new design from ground up that leverages all of the latest
technology and best practices in software development. The application is
developed in C# and runs on the .Net framework.

I especially want to think W9ZRX and K3LR and his contest team for the help,
ideas, and support over the last two years. AR-Cluster version 6 has
successfully ran at the K3LR super station for over 2 years. I was most
likely the very first cluster to ever run skimmer spots as we were pulling
skimmer spots directly off the Reverse Beacon web site long before skimmer
spots were available over telnet connections.

Besides testing at K3LR's and a few other Texas nodes, AR-Cluster 6 was
tested in a performance lab to 500,000 spots per hour. It should run fine
on the existing cluster load with plenty of reserve as the skimmer network
scales up in spot volume.

Key Features:
1. Leverages the latest technologies in software development
2. Most objects are lazy loaded so the app loads fast
3. Works with skimmer spots
4. Tested to 500,000 DX spots per hour
5. All new filtering with special filters for skimmer spots
6. Contest stations can use it as a spot aggregator for mixing/filtering
skimmer and human DX spots
7. Multi-threaded - makes use of multi-core processors and makes things
work better: telnet server, content updates are all done on low priority
background threads, etc
8. Uses new spot processing logic that offers huge performance increases
9. Physical databases are automatically taken off-line for maintenance for
purge and compaction each night.
10. New node to node protocol
11. New configurable log allows total configuration of logging functions,
email alerts and highlighting and timing of spot execution
12. Developed using a pluggable architecture allowing that allows expansion
by other third party developers
13. Install is a simple copy operation
14. Backups and moving to a new computer is a simple copy operation
15. All configuration is contained in simple XML files
16. New filters allow you to filter by anything in the spot including
several new fields added by the software
17. New SH/QSL command that pulls content on-line from the www.qslinfo.de
database
18. Third party content is updated automatically each night: LOTW, Cluster
list, Master call and CTY
19. The sysop has the capability to process his own US/VE callsign
databases. The process takes about 10 minutes.
20. New spot tracking capabilities to reduce cluster abuse
21. Uses a newer CTY file that provided better zone resolution
22. Increased accuracy on Lat/Lon position
23. Cross platform support for other operating systems like Mac and Linux
are possible (see http://www.mono-project.com)
24. Includes a new AR-Cluster client app for the cluster users.

If you are currently running AR-Cluster and want to run the new code as a
skimmer cluster, drop me an email including the callsign (and optional SSID)
that you want to use. You need a Windows box with .Net framework 4
installed. The version 6 code can run on the same box as your existing
cluster.
